Mesh Request ---> Nova-Class (Equinox) LWO format

Postby Beavercorp » Sat Mar 17, 2007 4:10 pm

Hey, I'm running a Star Trek Roleplaying Game, the USS Comanche.

Now, I really like the Nova-Class, but there aren't many pictures available of the class. I know there are a few meshes of it out there, but they don't seem to be in the PD, save for the one that was on STA, now replaced by STE... only thing is, that one was for Max, and I'm looking for a LW version.

Can anyone put me in contact with someone who has the max or is willing to do the conversion?

Thanks a lot in advance.

The max one isn't so good in my oppinion, I'd check scifi meshes and pm someone for one of their's, I'm pretty sure a few people have made them, and you might get it if you ask nicely.

not much chance. all nova mesh creators want money for their meshes now. some idiot offered money for a nova class mesh so now all nova class mesh makers dont give their models away anymore, they want money now :(

but you gotta admit, asking money for a mesh in the first place is not good. Other people who want to have that mesh will have to pay for it too then, cause the creator thinks "he paid for my mesh so they must pay too".

So i prefer to keep money transactions off forums. These communities should be based on friendly contact, not business contact.

I disagree, I think it's a good way to get a mesh you really want that noone has released and I don't think I'm an "idiot" for thinking that.. sci fi meshes have no problem with it, that's why they have the paid section. I think model makers should be paid if they want to. They only Rhode Island mesh I know is not availble and I doubt it will be.

allright, sorry that i called you an idiot, however, you suggested you wanted to pay for a mesh. if a meshmaker wants money, its his call. But if you OFFER money, you turn the meshmakers mind and make him ASK money. So i prefer to always try the free turn, and THEN maybe suggest you want to pay.

You can't call Lonewrite an idiot for doing what he did; it's his call too and he has that right. The fact that it spoils the market for some others is a pity but it happens in all markets all over the world.

Except it doesn't happen here :).

I wasn't aware though of a paid section at Scifi-meshes. Now there's a big risk of having Viacom come down on them. Very risky.

I too am mightily impressed someone took money for a model of a copyrighted design. Yes he made the mesh, but he doesn't own the copyright on anything other than the mesh itself and he sure as hell cant sell it without risking being dragged out into the street and sued to death.

You'll find when you download most meshes of that type that they carry a readme file explaining that they cant be used in any commercial way as the rights still belong to the original copyright owner, and if anyone makes money from the mesh it's risking legal action. You can charge what you like for original designs, but selling Lucasarts and Viacom owned material is asking for it.

Same thing -- it's receiving money for creating/reproducing something you don't own the copyright to. Very, very risky.

I had a guy steal a load of my models from my site and post them up on Turbosquid, where he tried to sell them as his own work and make money from them. Fortunately he was no 3D guy and it was quickly noted by some of my friends in the 3D community who recognised the models as my free work and informed me.

When I informed Turbosquid and told them the guy had stolen my work (and 3 other modelers stuff) they hummed and hawed and asked for proofs, etc. When we then also pointed out he was selling our non-profit fan 'interpretations' of copyrighted designs they banned the guy and took them all down right away with no more questions. They dont mind bugging Joe Public, but they dont risk a suit from Lucasfilm, Viacom, etc.

If you pay him to make one or two pictures and you keep it between you guys then fair enough, but dont broadcast it as someone might leap in and call foul. Selling the mesh itself is very dodgy. Any meshes I've made for TV shows I've had to make sure I dont release the model, since the show or FX company that paid me to create it has the copyright.
