Request - Korolev-Class

Postby brydon.j.sinclair » Wed Jun 13, 2007 7:48 am

Hello one and all,

I'm new here so be gentle! I'm currently working on a fan fic project and have found what I believe to be the best ship for the project, the Korolev-Class, however the design I like only has a side view.
http://www.trekships.org/korolev-redesign-side.jpg

I was wondering if it would be possible to do request either a set of plans (fore / aft / dorsal / ventral) or a mesh of the class.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
B

What little bit i know from meshing, its hard to do a ship knowing it with just one agnle. But I been to the site and saw the other variations, it might be possible for meshers here to make it basing it on that side view, the the other views of those variations. YOu can find the Yacht on Axeman's site. I am sure i saw it there. Axeman has his site linked in the topics in the "New Meshes" Section. HE donated the meshes for star trek europe. I will bump this reply with the link to his site if the mesh is there for the yacht.

this is probably not much help

http://www.axeman3d.com/models3.htm

that url is to Axeman's site. he's a member here, you can send him a PM and ask him if you can "Unkitbash" The Yacht or if he has the orginal he will let you use. He's really friendly.

As for getting a mesh for the Korelev or getting someone to make it for you, thats gonna be difficult.

Oh to those of you who would like to help sinclair, the Trekships site dont alloe hotlinks, just type in Trekships.com or org or whatever into your browser and click Korelev to see what Sinclair is talking about. There are variations of the ship. The Variation Sinclair wants only has a side view available. But i thought maybe any of you wanting to make this mesh could make it combining the views of other variations with the side view picture to at least get something that looks decent enough for him to use.

The yacht is free for anyone to use in non-commercial projects, but I dont know about Robs model of the Korolev itself and I dont think Brydon wants just the yacht. I dont remember there being any front shots or rear shots of the Korolev, Kris Trigwell was doing the schematics for it and he used to send them to us and we'd make the models of the final agreed design. As far as I now we never finished the final model, I concentrated on the yacht rather than the Korolev itself as there was still some design discussion going on at the time.

By the way, which Korolev design is the one that's wanted? There's the top picture, the side-on one, or there's all those others we rejected below it and the 3D model based on a different and older design again? I could maybe have a bash at making the top one, but the others look a bit blah and dont get the juices going.

Its the side one at the top where the secondary hull is similar to that of the Olympic-Class medical ship. Just my personal preference.

I know that its probably impossible to get any meshes for the ship but even just additional plans for other angles would be nice, if anyone could possibly do that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

The guy who did the drawings was a fellow member of the ASDB, we used to work together all the time on the Star Trek stuff we did. Usually he'd supply the designs and I'd turn them into models from his schematics, with him creating decals and certain image maps to my order. I'll see if i can get a hold of him, I haven't heard from him in a while since the ASDB petered out. If he has more plans I may take a shot at turning his Korolev into a 3D model.

No reply from Kris the drawings guy, but I've made a start based on the side drawing. I have the basic saucer made and the nacelle is almost complete too. No idea if I'll get it too accurate, but I haven't made a big Trek ship in a while so it's fun again.

Oh, sorry dude, been off on holiday. I've got the saucer and nacelle basics done, need to to the body and neck next. No word from the designer, i think I'm on my own on this one. I'll do some WIP pics whenI get the chance.

Long time no see, but here's an update.

The designer of the Korolev that you liked has contacted me and we're back in regular communication again. he has been digging out design sketches from years ago and sent me what he has, so I now have a good idea of the design of the dorsal, front and side views. With a bit of luck I think I can start work on this mesh now, since all I have right now are a very basic saucer and nacelles. I'll post some updates as soon as I can, but I just started a new job and cash-money work takes precedence at the moment. :)

More updates, added the pylons, the secondary hull has more detials and the nacelles have bussards now. The plylon design and nacelle caps will no doubt be debated by the guys that designed it, so this may change. Likewise the black radiator area on the front of the neck, it may have to change to make room for a revised navigational deflector.
