Ubuntu software

Postby enzolima » Mon Oct 22, 2007 12:45 pm

Okay so here's the thing:

I moved all my stuff to Ubuntu (to hell with windows) but I have no internet on that PC (im posting this on my parents PC, dont have internet anymore on my own), so i need to download and install some software to get back on track. Now i need to have the following software:

1. a php server, standalone would be best
2. a good video editing program, preferrably one that can do what AfterEffects can do

those are the only ones for now. i have found some of these, but they require that i use the ubuntu online update service, and i dont have internet on that pc.

Congrats on getting Ubuntu! :D. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by php server. But Apache sounds pretty close. I don't know if you have previous experience in unix OS, but to get apache in most FC based linux, go to a terminal, and type:

"root" (Without inverted commas")

Give it the password when its asks.

then type:

"yum search"

Followed by the software you want :). But you may already know this.

Video editing apps are very scarse in linux (3 months on PS3 YDL and still nothing), so you might want to consider getting "Wine" (an app to run exe's in linux. it does not do any emulation), and running AE ;).

Hope that helps.
