Old Star Trek Australia Meshes

If you know of meshes that are available, but not hosted on the STMC, or if you have made a mesh yourself and want to release it on the STMC, post here!

Update time, here's a conversion of the Constellation-class featured on the STE website. This one, like the previous one, is in lwo format.

Standard release, basic scene with ship, nothing overly fancy save for the inclusion of a PSD file and a little reworking to the texturing as to allow customisable registries.

Here's how it looks when rendered in the scene:

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I downloaded the Raven.obj file from the Star Trek Europe site. I noticed there wasn't a Lightwave version so I thought I'd while away 20 mins converting it. Three hours later and I've finished, since I noticed it was wildly inaccurate in a lot of places. Here's how it looks now in Lightwave...

Image

Drastically reduced polygon count.
Added detail to the rear, sides and the nacelles
Added the missing side bussard slots
Completely rebuilt several sections
Reshaped the front to add the tapered cross-section
Tapered the rear of the ship and the nacelles
Fixed nacelle position and corrected wing details
New side windows to correct shape and depth
All-over retexture

Ideally I'd used more image maps for decals, etc and better bump-mapping but I dont want to lash out a lot of time on a model I didn't actually make. Anyway, it's for download now at http://www.axeman3d.com/zips/Raven.rar if you want it for the STE site as the .LWO version.

You should try the Nova-class max version. Absolutely hell to convert and the mesh itself is so large it causes my Lightwave to lock up.

I cant convert Max models into anything, I need the thing in .obj, .dxf or .3ds in order to get it into Lightwave. Not that I can find the model you're talking about anyway, not on this site or STE. Where is it?

Enzo kindly provided this to me at my request, but thus far I've no luck. Besides I'm limited to the same situation of converting .max to 3DS/Obj/DXF.

As for the Raven. Excellent, smooth render, the right amount of shine. The only qualm is the exclusion of the textures used.

Kuruma, the only texture map used was the Generic Panels texture that ships as standard with Lightwave, which is why I didn't bundle it with it. If you have Lightwave then you have that image map, or so I thought. The rest are procedurals generated on the fly.

I'm downloading that nova to have a look. I cant believe the size of the file, I suspect it's probably going to melt my new PC as well.

Just had a look at the file. It includes a Nova in Lightwave format which, apart from a little tweaking here and there, is comlplete and ready to use. It also includes a ship called USS Equinox in a variety of different formats (max, obj, 3ds, dxf) and I hav begun to convert the .obj file to Lightwave format. The model itself is now reduced to a relatively manageable 31,880 polygons but has no texturing whatsoever and 1 all-ver surface, so it may take a while.

Yes i have sent you all formats i had. Since at the time of uploading i wasn't sure which 3d app you have, i just trhew everything i had up. And OBJ files NEVER have textures unless there's an .mtl file included.

I find the .obj files easiest, they dont crack up as badly as .3ds files during the conversion process. Although the converted .3ds models are split into textured areas, they are invariably knackered in the transfer.

I could try converting that nova, it's a little easier for me since I have max.

I've heard that there was a highly detailed 3DS SteamRunner on this site at one point, does anyone still have this? I need it for my next idea. For an idea as to how big this idea is... it will include 36 ships.

Well, I think it's high time for an update to this thread, so without furthur ado another Tachy-classic, the Ares.

http://www.legacyofshadows.net/meshes/aresclasslwo.rar

Same basic package, conversion to LWO with a Lightwave scene included, original max mesh provided ever so kindly by the CO of U.S.S Laffey. Here are a few pictures for your viewing pleasure, I've mostly darkened the vessel and improved the textures for the bussard and nacelles.

Enjoy all!
