Request for .dxf models..

Postby Bridson » Sun Jan 27, 2008 6:13 am

I'm working on adding some federation models to Space Empires V, but it requires direct x unwrapped models, looking for all time era and possibly some klingon and romulan ships, is there a site or free software for converting from 3ds, max or the like to .dxf???
Thanks much for any help...

I don't know if it helps you but isn't there already a good site with models over at battleclinic.com ?

Hey, appreciate the feedback, I'm playing around with blender and trying to convert, but still learning, and not that easy, I was working with modo a little but trial ran out, will pick that up when I get the funds to, I mainly do music atm, and I'm audio engineer for a half life 2 mod, but I've been a treky for years, did alot of FASA stuff back in the day, I checked out the supremecy deal and I'll try it out too, but there's not a whole lot of models out in direct x format, so I'll make do till something changes, anyhow, I have an album out and samples on my site, Yachshig4.biz, hopefully we can get something worked out, I could barter music for models, my sound is good...

as far as blender the best formats to import are .lwo and .3ds, because blender can import the textures, except for the spec, nor, and emit textures

except for when they are made in outdated programs, because then you get .3ds with objects mirrored, or with .lwo all objects on one mesh

the best sites for meshes:
http://www.trekmeshes.ch
http://www.scifi-meshes.com
http://www.startrekmeshes.com(the backup of the old st:australia)
http://www.foundation3d.com
(formerly lightwave group and now has multiple formats)
http://www.3dgladiators.com
http://www.scifi3d.com

and those are all i can think of

from there you should be able to import and save the meshes into blender,
and even export them into the .dxf format as well...[/url]

Thanks for the info, I did get blender and also modo 203, as far as I can tell I can open in either but I like to moddel in modo, only it won't output to x file so I probably have to go from modo to blender to do that, I would love to do the romulan-federation war era shipset, read the deal from the old fasa books, have some businesses I'm building so time is at a premium, but when I get around to it I'll post some stuff, did a little 3d work years ago and I'm hopeing to get back into it, many thanks again for the help...
