Requesting help guys?

Hi gang, long time since I've posted but I'm after a little help.

I have a couple of Ed Giddings meshes that I would seriously like to put new registrations on BUT my lack of modelling skills is preventing me. If they were texture based registrations, I could manage quite nicely thank you but unfortunately both models employ modelled ship's registrations which I have no idea (let alone skill) to adjust

The models are his excellent 1701-E and the Delta Flyer, both in 3ds Max.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi Unusualsuspex, although the ed giddings 1701-E model looks nice i think the paul trenkler one is way more detailed. But that might not be what you need. Changing the callsing on ed's model is pretty easy. I could do it for you bu i think with a little help you could manage too.

1. Download and install the right texture you will need the Starfleet Bold Extended
2. Ungroup the model (group -> Ungroup)
3. Leave the text for positioning.
4. Use the text too with the right font.
5. put an extrude modifier on it. ( and a bend modifier if you want to pre- bend it)
6. Convert to edit poly and position.
7. detach into separate elements to position the letters individualy

You can also path conform the text alone and alter it at any time, but that's a bit more work.

Let me know if you dont succeed and what name you need.

Thanks Chainsaw :)

I'll check out Paul Trenkler's before I start this. I'll let you know how it progresses!

Again, thanks for the help mate. 8)

Hi Chainsaw :)

I agree, Paul Trenkler's is the one :) Just had a quick try at re-registering and failed miserably. I also found that deleting the old registry leaves a registry shaped hole on the hull!! I'm obviously not wired for this :( (plus I'm old hehe!)

I'd appreciate your help after all so if you could re-register Paul's model it's USS Honor and NCC-91814.

Sorry to be so totally hopeless but your help is really appreciated :)

(PS Looking forward to that Remmler Array mate!)

You Sir are what is generally known as a First Class Hero and are awarded the Digital Easter Egg (Virtual, Invisible and Fat Free) along with my undying thanks :)

Seriously though, thanks Chainsaw. I'm going to keep working at the method you gave me. Just out of interest, why did the removed registry leave a hole and how would I fix that?

Regards and Happy Easter mate

The registry in this model is part of the geometry of the mesh. In the origional model it didn't line up exactly due to some convertion problems. I patched the hole in the origional. Then i made the callsing as a editable poly and recut it out of the restored mesh.
